In 2008, my brother Geoff had his DNA done through the National Geographic genographic program.

The male line. His father's father's father etc.

This looks at DNA over 150,000 years and can tell which branch of the human family we belong to.

His line wanders out of Africa, up through the middle east and then turns west into Europe, France and then across to UK.

Which agrees with the Rickarby family history going back to the de Tilleul knight of William the Conqueror who settled in Scaleby in Cumberland. (Richard the Rider)

His male ancestors

Reginald Rickarby b 1903 Kalgoorlie WA. (tennis coach and fitter and turner)

Frederick Rickarbyb 1866 Sunbury, Vic (barrister and solicitor)

George Rickarby b 1832 Liverpool (builder, surveyor, teacher)

John Rickerby b 1803 Manchester (builder)

Robert Rickarby abt 1773, Scotland or Lans (joiner)

John Richarby abt 1745, Dumfries

Jonathon Rickarby abt 1694 Dumfries

John Rickarby abt 1649 Dumfries

...

...

Adam de Rickerbie way back (eg supposed to be the stem father of all Rickarbys)

The female line, my mother's, mother's mother etc.

On the other hand mine comes out of Africa and heads due north throught the middle east and Europe up towards the top of Finland and Norway and then down the west coast of Norway, which suggests they were Vikings.

my female ancestors

Freda Hartley b 1904 (embroidery designer, wife of Reg Rickarby)

Kathleen Skead b 1882 Victoria (wife of miner)

Bessie Lewis b 1854 Victoria (wife of cigar maker, mother of 11)

Elizabeth Astbury b 1834 Staffordshire (caterer, wife of miner, brick maker)

Elizabeth Tharme b 1806 Staffordshire (caterer, wife of inn keeper)

Mary Gothard b 1780 Staffordshire

Elizabeth Phillips b abt 1750 Staffordshire

Elizabeth b abt 1725
