RICHARDBYE, DE RICKERBIE, RICCERBIE, RICKARBY RICKERBY , RICKABY, RICHARBY, RICHERBY, RICHABY, RIGBY, etc

Rickaby - common in Durham and Yorkshire

Richarby - almost exclusive to one line from Lancashire, but now based in Yorkshire around Sheffield in the previous century.

Rickarby - common in Scotland and Lancashire.

Rickerby - common in Lancashire and Cumbria.

Richarby

 

1. John Richarby (joiner) b abt 1745, possibly in Scotland - married to Jean/jane, from Scotland. She died 1847in Edgehill recorded with her granddaughter in 1841 census. (Jane Rickerby married to Anthony Organ)

One of his sons, also John, who married Phoebe Waters in 1805, retained the spelling of Richarby, as did his descendants through to this day. His siblings and cousins with the exception of William used either Rickerby or Rickarby.

 

2. John and Phoebe had a son John born 1806 in the same month as his father died.

John 2 - abt 1770-June 1806 (m. to Phoebe)
